Local SEO in Bangladesh: How to Rank Your Business on Google Maps
Local SEO guide for businesses in Dhaka and Bangladesh: optimize your Google Business Profile, earn reviews, build citations and rank in Google Maps.
When someone searches “digital agency near me” or “best restaurant in Dhanmondi”, Google shows a map with three businesses before any normal results. That map pack gets a large share of clicks and calls. Local SEO is how you earn a place in it — and for most small businesses in Bangladesh it is the fastest, cheapest way to win customers from Google.
What is local SEO and why it matters
Local SEO is the process of optimizing your online presence so you appear for searches with local intent — searches that include a place (“in Gulshan”, “Dhaka”) or that Google treats as local (“plumber”, “cafe near me”). Google ranks local results on three main factors: relevance (does your business match the search?), distance (how close are you to the searcher?) and prominence (how well-known and trusted is your business online?).
You can’t change distance, but relevance and prominence are fully in your control — and that is what the steps below improve.
Step 1: Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile (GBP) is the single most important local ranking asset. Claim it at business.google.com, verify it, and fill in every field:
- Primary category — choose the most specific one (e.g. “Digital marketing agency”, not just “Agency”).
- Secondary categories for other services you genuinely offer.
- Business description that naturally mentions your main services and area.
- Opening hours, phone number, website and service areas.
- Products and services with short descriptions and prices where possible.
- Real photos of your office, team and work — upload new ones regularly.
Step 2: Earn and reply to reviews
Reviews are a strong prominence signal and also convince searchers to choose you. Ask every happy customer for a review — send a short link by WhatsApp or SMS right after you deliver the work. Reply to every review, positive or negative, politely and quickly. Never buy fake reviews: Google removes them and can suspend your profile.
Step 3: Build local citations
A citation is any online mention of your business name, address and phone number. List your business on trusted directories and platforms used in Bangladesh — business directories, industry associations, Facebook, LinkedIn and relevant marketplaces. Keep every listing identical to your Google Business Profile.
Step 4: Optimize your website for local search
- Mention your city and service areas naturally in page titles, headings and content.
- Create a separate page for each main service, and for each area if you serve several.
- Add your NAP and an embedded Google Map to the contact page and footer.
- Add LocalBusiness structured data so Google understands your location and hours.
- Make sure the site is fast and works perfectly on mobile — most local searches happen on phones.
These are the same on-page basics covered in my on-page SEO checklist.
Step 5: Post updates and track results
Use Google Business Profile posts to share offers, events and new work every week or two. Then measure: GBP Insights shows calls, direction requests and website clicks, while Google Search Console and GA4 show which local searches bring visitors. Review the numbers monthly and double down on what works.
Frequently asked questions
How long does local SEO take to show results?
+
A fully optimized Google Business Profile can start showing improvements within a few weeks. Competitive areas usually need three to six months of consistent reviews, citations and content.
Do I need a website for local SEO?
+
You can rank in Google Maps with only a Business Profile, but a fast, well-optimized website makes your listing more relevant and trustworthy, and usually improves rankings and conversions.
Is local SEO useful for online-only businesses?
+
If you serve customers in specific cities, yes — use service areas instead of a public address. Purely online businesses with no local customers benefit more from traditional SEO.
